Practically everyone has seen drawings of stick figures

. Children draw them when they are doodling out of boredom or as a means to illustrate stories or points they are trying to make. Outside of school and boredom, people draw stick figures in various positions on stop signs, on benches, on buildings on doors and on the walls of public bathrooms. When these figures are drawn in these instances, it is usually to facilitate establishing a mark or letting someone know that someone else was there. Surprisingly, the stick figure has a long history, and they are not just used by children.

Back in the cave man days, people drew stick figures on the walls of their caves or on slabs of rock. These figures were drawn to convey messages to others or to tell a story. People used these drawings to communicate, as a writing system was not used during those days. Writing systems came much later when people became more sophisticated. But during the cave man days, primary focus was put on survival and providing for the needs of the family and the greater group, not leaving a whole lot of time for developing and learning literacy. These stick people, along with the artifacts that these people left behind provide us with a pretty good idea of how the cave men lived.

One may wonder how these cave men drew these figures when no writing utensils or paper were present. Well, the way it was done was that these individuals took sharp rocks and fashioned them into tools in order to make carvings. Sure, it was a long and arduous process; however, these guys were willing to take the time and effort to draw the stick people because it was important to them.

Now, stickmen are being used in a new and interesting way. A number of stick games are being created for people to play by using the computer and Internet. Stick games are on the rise because using stickmen provides numerous benefits. For one, stick figures are not copyrighted. Anyone can draw a stick figure and not have to worry about whether or not they will be sued for copyright infringement. Stickmen are also easy to draw, making the graphic design of stick games simplistic. The simple graphics also allows these games to be easy to load, causing them to be popular among users and programmers alike.
