Why Bmw Roof Bars Could Spoil The Green Dream

So, you've bought yourself a brand new high performance car

. However, regardless of the make, all that performance and efficiency can be lost once you start piling luggage onto the roof. For example, let's have a look at the BMW roof bars. These are, as with every part, of the brands work, tailor made for efficiency and reliability. However, once luggage is firmly attached, they can quickly have an effect on the basic performance figures of the car.

So why single out Bimmers, you might ask? Well, for one very simple reason. As you may have noticed if you've been watching the adverts recently, the German manufacturer is very keen to make the most of its green credentials. In particular it has been especially eager to hype up one feature that they believe put them into a class of their own in the car market.

It is called, excitingly, efficient dynamics. It uses a combination of technologies to make their cars greener and more fuel efficient without sacrificing anything in terms of performance. In short, they hold out the tantalising prospect to their drivers of having their cake and eating it.

Just how much this hype translates into the real world, but they have had an effect. BMW, roof bars and all, have quickly established a niche for themselves as offering high performance, but green cars.

Other manufacturers might look on enviously. The Toyota Prius, for example, has worked especially hard to capture the green market and it has worked a dream. Thanks to a throng of celebrity owners sales have rocketed, even defying the public scandal surrounding their sticking accelerator pedals. However, these are all about making a grand sacrifice in the name of environmentalism.

Audi have also been making roads. They want to close the green car gap that might open up between themselves and their main rival. However, there is one cloud on the horizon for BMW. Roof bars designed to carry heavy loads could harm performance and that much vaunted energy efficiency.

Many drivers load their roof bars up to and beyond the maximum suggested limits. BMW roof bars are designed to take even the heaviest loads and the German manufacturer designs them as such. However, their owners take advantage of this facility and often leave excess loads on for longer. By leaving a roof rack in place even when it's not carrying any loads you will be sacrificing a small but significant amount in terms of performance and fuel economy. The fuel economy figures put out by new cars sound impressive, but by failing to take simple precautions you could fail to get all the benefits you expect.
