Why Buying Music Is A Lot More Beneficial Than Illegally Downloading It

There are many debates around at the moment as to whether or not the general public should be able to download music for free

. The reasoning behind it becoming legal is that artists should want the general public to enjoy their music and not just want to make money from us for doing so.

I am one of those people that do not in fact agree with this. Yes I love music, and yes it would be great to receive guiltless free music from time to time however I think by wanting it to be free all the time we are losing the point.

People seem to have got it into their heads that musicians and record industries earn millions anyway so why should we just feed into the rich industry when there are other more important things to spend our money on. However, this I believe is a very nave way of looking at things, the industry has made so much money because of the fact that in the past people enjoyed buying into the music and would spend money on purchasing their favourite artists latest album. These days however people simply go online, and then illegally download the music, this is not only robbing the industry of well deserved money, but it is also stopping the artists of the music receiving the recognition that they deserve.

How often do you go into a shop, do your shopping and then simply walk out without paying for it? How often do you invite a plumber or electrician into your home, use their services and then refuse to pay them for their time. Although these might seem quite extreme examples they are the same. A musicians trade is their music and if you are downloading their trade and listening to it for free then you are abusing their service to you. Yes they may love their job, but this does not mean that they dont deserve to get paid for it. Therefore my plea to you is to reconsider how you go about getting your music, if you dont want to pay to listen to music, and think something else is more worthy of your money, then perhaps you do not love it enough? If you really dont want to pay, there is always the radio - you may just have to wait for a while to hear your desired song.
