There are several reasons why your car brakes create a squealing sound. Although the majority of brake pads squealing are not due to car parts that rub against each other, one possible reason is that there a specific car components that are already worn out. Other than that, squealing are, in reality, produced by vibrations between the brake pads.
Worn out brake pads. Friction is the reason why your car slows down and eventually stops. Friction happens as brake pads squeeze against the rotors. Modern day's brake pads are designed with an indicator device that gives a squealing sound if its indicator clip touches the rotor. This occurs when the brake pads (which are supposed to touch the rotor) are worn out.
Glazed rotors. Friction results to heat. And heat will eventually cause brake pads and rotors to glaze. Glazed rotors and brake pads reduce the amount of friction they produce therefore creating a squeal.
Broken clips. These clips prevent your pads from shaking every time you put on a brake and they are not exempted from tearing down. If brakes pads are not held in place by these anti-rattle clips, pads will vibrate and squealing occurs.
Worn out shims. Car brakes squealing can be caused if shims are worn. Shims help in the insulation of brake pads from the calipers. They need to be replaced after the car has traveled thousands of miles.
