Why Choose Toyota Lucida Over Newer MPVs
I wanted a new MPV fro my growing family but couldnt see any logic in paying for a new one when MPVs depreciate rapidly. After doing thorough survey on web I realized that probably the best MPV isnt available in Europe anymore but even its used model can be of greater value than most MPVs currently sold in UK. So I dug deep and found that I can get a Toyota Lucida within my stipulated budget of 15000 , without having to worry about reliability. Since Japanese manufacturer, Toyota, built its name for providing reliable and sturdy vehicles, Toyota Lucida, companys flagship MPV, also boasts spotless record in reliability. Though it was discontinued in 2006, Lucida is still considered the top of the line MPV in UK.
Marketed and launched as Previa in UK, Toyota Lucida competed with, more economically priced, Renault and Ford in UK. Third generation Lucida was pulled out from European market as Toyota decided to focus on more lucrative 4x4 and minivan categories. Also, Lucida is replaced by similarly sized Sienna in North American market, both Lucida and Sienna are the largest MPVs currently offered by Toyota. In UK second, third and even first generation Lucida are highly regarded and remain the most desirable MPVs and offer lucrative returns despite availability of newer models from Toyotas competitors like VW, Vauxhall and Ford. There are many reasons for consumers preferring Lucida over the likes of Sharan and Espace.
For starters, a brand new Lucida seemed overpriced in comparison to its European competitors, second hand or used Lucidas fit the budget perfectly as a well maintained Lucida can be purchased in range of 3000 to 13000 , whereas newer MPVs cost in excess of 17000 .
Then there is the ever lasting reliability of Toyota vehicles. Even Japanese manufacturers find it hard to compete with Toyotas reliability; its European contemporaries dont stand a chance in a fair fight.
Lucida is equipped with top of the line gadgets, sturdy yet well built materials and comes with loads of comfortable space.
The only real problem was its 2.4 litre Toyota Lucida engine was by no means capable of supporting a big MPV; ironically even this small petrol engine produces too much CO2 to save any real road tax. The only way around this problem is going for an imported Lucida, as American and Japanese versions were launched with bigger 3.0 and 3.5 litre engines. Finding one in UK wont be that hard if one can navigate his way around web.
