Why Daily Oral Care Is Important To Keep Your Mouth Healthy
You have many different responsibilities to make sure your body is healthy
. One of the most important is to make sure your teeth and gums remain clean and free from decay. To effectively do this, you need to make sure you are taking care of them on a daily basis. If you do not have one already, you need to start a routine of daily oral care to ensure that your teeth remain healthy.
Brushing and Flossing
Keeping your teeth and gums healthy begins at home. Although brushing and flossing your teeth and flossing daily may seem like mundane tasks, they are essential to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Follow these basic instructions for taking care of your oral health and you will be able to keep your teeth and gums healthy and avoid costly and inconvenient dental problems in the future:
*Brush your teeth at least twice per day, generally after meals. Make sure to give yourself enough time to do a good job when you brush.
*Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. You are also able to use an electric toothbrush for optimal results.
*Hold the toothbrush at a slight angle against your teeth and use slight back-and-forth motions to clean all of your teeth. Try not to use too much force when you brush, as this can cause bleeding of your gums.
*Make sure to replace your toothbrush every three to four months or when the bristles become worn down. This will ensure that your brush will remain effective at cleaning your teeth.
*You need to floss your teeth daily to reach the areas in between your teeth. Your brush is not able to reach these areas and plaque can build up and cause problems.
Braces and Daily Oral Health
If you wear braces, it is extremely important that you take care of your oral health on a daily basis. If you neglect your oral health while wearing braces, a variety of problems can occur. Food particles can easily get caught in your braces within the network of brackets and wires. You need to make sure that you brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice per day. You also need to navigate around the brackets on your teeth and make sure that you clean in all of the hard-to-reach areas. To floss your teeth with braces, you need to use a special floss threader to reach certain parts of your teeth. Although brushing and flossing may seem more difficult with braces, they are extremely important to ensure that your teeth remain healthy while you are receiving orthodontic treatment.
