Why Do You Dislike Bugs?
People in temperate climates seem to have a hard time accepting bugs. Maybe in some ways that's fair because bugs in temperate climates are decidedly more aggressive and invasive than their tropical cousins (with the exception of the rain forest bugs I suppose; I've never been around them). Now, I don't love cockroaches, at least not enough to feel happily surprised at seeing one on my kitchen sink, but I really don't pursue exterminating them either. They don't cause illness, and they really don't freak me out like they do some people (my ex-wife used to jump on the ceiling at the sight of one and stay there until I killed it for her). I guess I have a peaceful coexistence with roaches. I know that sends shivers up many of my readers? spines.
I will say without hesitation that I'll kill anything that sucks my blood, bites, or stings me with poison (excluding spiders unless they're black widows- but I've never seen one of those). Tough luck if you're in one of those categories and I think I might be your target.
Your average person in the tropics has no fear of big bugs. I remember in a guest house living room in Thailand a huge Beetle-like thing crawling across the floor. It was a pretty cool bug that no one had ever seen before, so no one said anything. But a young Thai lady working there just happened to see it. She swooped down with her bare hand and gently scooped it up. Careful not to hurt the bug as big as a box, she released it outside where it could its regular thing again.
Finally, if you're going to kill bugs, why not eat them? Everyone has at least heard of that. Insects are high in protein, low in fat, and are supposed to be very good for you. The worst thing about them is that they're rather tasteless. Rumors circulated years back that a certain hamburger fast food chain was putting worms in its burgers. If that were true, actually, the worms would be better for you than the beef!
