There are many forms of exercise that are beneficial to all people

, and one of those is resistance training. Maybe you do not know what resistance training is. Resistance exercises are weight lifting, dumbells, elastic tubing or bands, even pushups, any exercise that cause the muscles to contract against external resistance.

These types of exercise a beneficial to all age groups, with even the elderly seeing improvement in their health. One good result of resistance training for the older population, is that their muscles become stronger, and this helps their balance. Another reason for doing resistance exercises is they help with bone density. Many elderly fall and break bones, so anything that can make for stronger bones is good. Stronger bones is good for people of all ages One group of people that could use these types of exercises are post-menopausal women, because of their age, and the hormonal changes they are experiencing, their bones become very fragile. Women are not usually the people you see doing resistance training, and they are the ones who could use it the most.

The other group that could use resistance exercises is the group that includes all of the overweight people. These exercises, combined with the right nutrition, make quite an effective weight loss program.


With resistance training, you are basically burning up fats, to feed your muscles. That is why people are encouraged to get a good exercise program when they decide they want to lose weight.

These exercises will not only cause you to lose weight thus putting less stress on your bones, but also build up your bone density, giving you double the benefit.

Research has also shown this type of exercise program will give you a lower blood pressure, and therefore reduces your risk of heart disease.

You do not need to be a fanatical weight lifter like a lot of people, to get the benefits of resistance training. Getting on a reasonable, consistant program will give you enough good results to make it worthwhile. Your strength will increase, your weight will go down, you will look and feel younger, and you will live longer, healthier and happier.

People have been looking for ways to slow down aging, and keep their youthful looks, so why are they not flocking to fitness clubs, and using the weight machines.
