Why Filtered Water Should Be In Every Home

Our fragile ecosystem isn't a closed loop, and so the poisons we put into the earth and the air end up in our water supply. Even further, many municipalities add chemicals to the water to make it safe to drink; however, this in turn can contribute to diseases such as osteoporosis or cancer because calcium is leeched out while carcinogens are added in. For the purpose of my discussion, water filtration is defined as a method of purifying water using chemicals or specially designed equipment to bring the toxic levels in water to a safe drinking level. Filtering water so it is safe to drink should ensure that the final product is free of any microorganisms that may cause illness.

The use of water filters does the very important job of keeping pollutants from entering and becoming toxic in your body; thus reducing your risk of sickness and disease. The microorganisms and other pathogens that cause waterborne infections are kept to a minimum.

Some home filters have solid yet permeable blocks that are made from carbon. The carbon element selectively clears some of the toxic substances like bacteria that are found in drinking water. The carbon block keeps the natural pH of water and does not filter useful minerals that are required in healthy water. Water filters have even been medically certified in reducing the chances of cancers of the colon, bladder and rectum. This is because the byproduct of chlorine that is commonly used to treat water is a known carcinogen.

A popular home style of filter is the model that attaches to the faucet. It is affixed to the faucets of the home and filters all water as it is dispensed. This is an extremely handy model and helps ensure that the water you drink and cook with is filtered. However, the kitchen isn't the only place where you will want pure water in your home. Filtered water systems are available for the bathroom, and anywhere brushing your teeth or using the shower could expose you to unfiltered and contaminated water.

Of course it is a personal choice to drink filtered water, but the positive results of consumption of healthy water weigh heavily. Contaminated water can sometimes cause people to seek medical attention for waterborne diseases, such as dysentery and bilharziasis (a parasitic disease related to drinking water contaminated with fluke). Avoiding infection is a much wiser route than seeking treatment for such diseases. As they say, prevention is much better than the cure.About the Author:
