Why Flos Is A Leading Giant In The Light Manufacturing Industry

Flos is an Italian company that was founded in the year 1962

. The company was focused at producing a wide variety of lamps. The company gained huge popularity producing designer lamps, the likes of Arco, Toio and Relemme lamps. These lamps still exist to date and have become classics that cost a bit more but are worth the buy.

The company's light designs were the products of the Castiglioni brothers Achille and Piergiacomo. Light designs by these two brothers have proven to be timeless and even today Flos continues to produce them. Not only is Flos still producing the lights, they are actually still selling as much as they used to back then. This is a true reflection of design brilliance.

Flos owes its existence to a spray on plastic coat (cocoon), which was being imported from the United States into Italy. Arturo Eisenkeil was the importer of the plastic coat. It was in the year 1959 when the business man was looking for possible uses of the plastic material to make money. Arturo then met two gentlemen Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina. The three teamed up to found a company that would manufacture light fixtures sprayed with the plastic coating. The trio acquired the services of expert designers like the Castiglioni Brothers and Scarpa. The designing trio produced some marvelous Cocoon lamps the world had never seen before. Several Cocoon lamp designs such as the Viscontea, Taraxacum and Gatto by the Castiglioni brothers made an instant mark in the light manufacturing industry. Scarpa also produced a Cocoon light design known as the Fantasma which also sent some shockwaves in the light industry.

With time, the Flos company became a big name and it was time to move on to greener pastures. In 1964, Flos moved from Mereno to Nave, which is located in the province of Brescia. Today, the company still remains in the same province but it has since moved from Nave to Bovezzo. In 1974, the company bought a leading company in industrial design Arteluce . As a result of this, Flos incorporated some designs from Arteluce into the Flos product range. The history of Flos is evidence of the excellent ingenuity of this company. From the day of the company's formation, the company has been producing for the world a range of never seen before lamp designs. The company's light designs, particularly the ones by the Castiglioni brothers, have gained widespread recognition in the design and art industry, thus earning several awards and honours.

Today, Flos continues to produce light designs that are second to none. Years of research have allowed the company to produce the most efficient lighting fixtures that are economic on energy consumption and at the same time being highly artistic. Flos lights are produced from complex computer programs that model the light design, as well as calculate the amount of light each model delivers and see if they fall in the safe levels recommended by the light manufacturers association.
