Why Glass Office Screens Are Becoming The Office Partition Of Choice
The range of partitioning options available to an office interior designer means there is no shortage of styles to apply
. One can have a solemn classic design or a light contemporary design, and the range of a solid, semi glazed or fully glazed office partition is there to complement it. Increasingly, however, it is the fully glazed option that is winning the preference amongst modern office designers. This comes as no great surprise, since the positive impact that glass has makes it a natural leading option. When it comes to partitions, walls of glass enhance the overall image of the office, leaving clients and visitors with the impression that work is conducted in a team atmosphere. And since an office with glass interior walls makes use of the maximum amount of natural light, there is also a sense that personnel are happy in general in their working environment. When it comes to screens, glass is also winning over the majority of office designers because of a number of reasons. Not only do they provide a practical solution to office layout and organisation, but they also create the minimum of visual distraction, maintain the sense of space and present branding opportunities. More Practical than Dividing Walls The use of screens as a partition is much more practical in certain situations. It is not always necessary to close an area off completely but instead use a screen as a simple marker. A perfect example is a reception area, which needs to be kept apart from the main office but not distanced. Having two or three panels stretching from floor to ceiling can segregate the area but still provide easy entry into the office to the left and right. The advantage of using glass is that the area remains as much a part of the office environment as possible, whereas a solid screen would serve to create a space that is almost a separate room. Maintains Open Floor Concept This is a key consideration, as too many walls can only succeed in closing areas off and creating a more contained working environment. This is not conducive to the idea of a fresh, open and positive place of work, and can actually lead to a fall in productivity from employees that experience a loss of enthusiasm and claustrophobia. So, keeping the feeling that there is a multitude of space for staff to enjoy is a major plus in terms of employee morale and, therefore, productivity. A glass screen allows light to be distributed without being impeded, and allows people to see beyond their own office area. Subtle, No Eye Sore One of the main problems with solid partitions and screens is that they can be something of an eyesore. This is not what an office interior designer is trying to accomplish. What is intended is that areas are segregated with the least amount of disruption to the working environment as possible. If a solid screen is large and imposing, it can be a negative distraction to personnel who must face it. Glass, however, accomplishes segregation without imposing on employees. Instead, the open plan of the office remains intact while the need to section off areas of the office floor is addressed effectively. With frosted glass and branding film, this view can even be improved, allowing for glass with interesting or attractive designs to be in view at all times. Stylish Branding Opportunities And it is the use of film that can serve to provide stylish branding opportunities. It has been shown that employees who are conscious where they are, have higher levels of productivity, are more imaginative and show greater attention to detail. The argument is that workers are more focused, so goals that have been targeted are achieved more effectively. Branding in the work place also serves to enhance team spirit, which means a more enthused staff at work. Film, specially designed to match company logos and colour schemes, can be stuck to a glass
office partition, thereby branding the screen in the most stylish and least distracting way. When it comes to both complete walls and single
screens, glass has very obvious advantages over the solid alternatives. For this reason, glass
partitions, walls and screens are understandably in high demand amongst office interior designers the world over.
