The common misconception amongst the majority of two way or CB radio buyers is that if the radio is of high quality, the radio speaker microphone does not need to match it. Resultantly, most radio buyers end up compromising on the whole communication package by buying a cheap and sub standard radio speaker microphone. Regardless of the popular beliefs, the scientific fact is that a radio microphone has as much of a role to play as the transmitting equipment when it comes to the quality of the sound. The following are some problems that a buyer with a sub standard radio microphone might face.
1. Sound incorporating static:
The first problem is static in the sound being transmitted. Although, in most cases, the reason for static is attributed to the transmission process, there are cases where a bad microphone has ended up producing bad quality sound with a lot of static in it.
2. Volume of the sound:
The volume of the sound being transmitted can also suffer if the equipment is hamstrung with a bad quality radio speaker microphone. This would result in the listener having to concentrate very hard to even make out what is being said or transferred through the airwaves.
3. Break in the sound:
This is a problem that is widely documented but only in the case of mobile phones. However, the basic principle behind the mobile phone is the same as a radio i.e. transfer through airwaves. This implies that something that can afflict transfer of voice through a mobile network would be doubly troublesome with radios. In practical terms, this means that the sound being transmitted and received through the radio would not be consistent and may contain breaks in it. Hence, a bad quality radio speaker microphone can also cause a break in the sound.
4. Robotic sounds:
Although this problem is relatively rare, it does occur off and on. The main purpose of a radio microphone is to convert a sound to electronic signals. But, if the sound is not converted properly then it would sound robotic and unclear. Hence, a bad quality radio microphone can result in the voice being received as too robotic to be understood.
The problems related to a bad quality radio speaker microphone are usually ignored by most users because they think that the cause is bad weather or troublesome equipment. Instead, focusing on the microphones themselves might resolve the problem of bad sound quality.
