Why IT Contractor is different from other IT Contractor websites
Why IT Contractor is different from other IT Contractor websites
IT Contractor Advice
ITContractor.com has been going for around 10 years now with two or three fresh articles every day. It has news articles, advice articles and comment on the current IT Contractor jobs market as well as a portal for Umbrella Companies. Most IT Contractors use either an Umbrella Company or a Limited Company.
The big difference that I find with ITContractor.com and the other websites in this field is that you can tell that the writer, Gerry McLaughlin, has had lots of actual experience as an IT Contractor himself. As he often tells us, he has had between 25 and 30 IT Contracts in the past. Most of the other contractor websites owners have either no experience as a contractor or very little.
Umbrella Company Credibility
I think that gives the content more credibility both to the IT Contractor readers and the Umbrella Company advertisers. If contractors find the advice credible on dealing with agencies, creating their CVs, going for IT Contractor interviews etc., then Umbrella Companies are more likely to cash in on that credibility that he has by advertising there and contractors are more likely to take the advice he gives out on articles like Which Umbrella Company?
Another big plus is that www.ITContractor.com is not afraid to let its readers participate and allows Comment after its articles. All I can say is that the proprietor must have developed a thick skin during his years as an IT Contractor as his Comments contributors certainly let rip if they don't agree with the content of an article.
Which Umbrella Company?
I find the IT Contractor Advice articles most useful but the advice on choosing an Umbrella Company I found to be useful too. Picking the right Umbrella Company can be a bit of a minefield as well as trying to choose whether an Umbrella Company or a Limited Company is the right route.
Some of the other contractor websites have owners with an accountancy background and that is useful for commentary on matters of tax etc. but when you want advice on how to deal with the dirty tricks that IT Recruiters get up to or how to get a contract or a good rate on renewal then the www.ITContractor.com advice then it is great to be able to dip into the advice from the knowledge that the owner has picked up over many years on real IT Contracts.
