The early aim of the organization was to provide insurance in each and every state of America so that no area is left. The organization was successful in achieving this aim. In past years, it was penalized and fined for not providing proper services and treatments to its customers and not paying its doctors.

In state of California, there are approximately 3.4 million people whom this organization serves and employs over sixty five thousand doctors. One can get an idea about the quality of the service which it provides to its customers on seeing the number of customers it has.

Recently, Blue Shield Medical Insurance of California has launched a corporate social responsibility website. The website will provide information about its corporate governance, and give tips on improving the quality of care. It also advises individuals to be environment friendly.

On April 19th, it was announced that physicians performance will be measured on set criteria and the results will be made public. This step has been taken so that people know which doctor is better than others and also, it will create a sense of competition among doctors so they will work better.

Blue Shield Insurance is not just providing only insurance to its people. It donated a huge sum of money when for Haiti earthquake relief. Several of its employees themselves were the victims of the earthquake and the fir donated $140,000 for earthquake relief. It has also launched an online rating and review program. It is a first-of-its-kind plan which allows customers to share their reviews and feed back with each other. Customers can join the Blue Shield website and then rate various insurance plans and also read the opinions of other people.

During the entire history of its operation, Blue Shield Medical Insurance Company has won several awards. In 2009, it won the finalist award in Insurance Marketing Competition. It also was a nominee for Webby award for best insurance website. The award list is endless. It also got the Best Financial Services Award.
