Why Is It Important To Communicate Across Borders And Culture?
Culture can be defined as practices prevalent or continued over a period of time that are deeply rooted in the society
. The word culture is an umbrella term and often has various connotations attached to it. It varies from region to region and the geographical location behaves as the dominant and determining factor in deciding how the so and so culture is.
On the other hand, border is a geographical phenomenon which is definitely a man-made one. Countries and states are divided on the basis of borders or geographical boundaries and that is one of the contributing factors towards lending each such divided states with its own mix of religion, values, cultures, way of living, etc, exclusively enjoyed by it.
To communicate across borders and cultures i.e. cross border communication to a lot of extent increases and helps to develop not only intercultural competence, but also encourages an awareness and understanding of the difference across the two sides of the border. These kind of exchanges take away or ease off the hostility that is often found among the people on the side of the border that is not their own. It is a welcome relief from the noise of gun battles and ships of war and the terrible and the painful wails due to the incompensable loss of human lives lost during the fight to save the border of ones own country.
As far as such kind of serious and delicate issues like this are concerned, the government has a pivotal role to play. It is also the duty of the ordinary citizens to foster feelings of brotherhood across the borders. This would in turn help to maintain peace and communal harmony which is more often than not the bone contention among different states. Human communication alone can save mankind from the clutches of war and international mistrust and insecurity. Trade and industries like movies, music and art has helped break the deafening silence between borders like India and Pakistan. Communication across borders and the intermingling of cultures can serve as a converging point where the hatred and ill feelings can give way to a better and a healthier tomorrow.
