Why Is It Necessary to Take Care Of Your Skin
?
What is the skin and why is it so important? Is a skin care routine necessary? If so, what should I do to take care of my skin?
The skin consists of three layers, namely the hypodermis, dermis and epidermis. The hypodermis and the dermis are the two bottommost layers that produce oil and collagen which gives your body the support, elasticity and shine that it needs. The dermis is the layer on top. It is an extremely thin layer made up of skin cells which are continually being shed and new cells formed in their place.
Although this may come as a surprise to many people, you skin is an organ, the same as say your heart or your liver. It happens to be the largest organ you possess and it performs many extremely vital jobs.
Your skin regulates your body temperature contains all the nerve endings that give you the sense of touch, and keeps you from falling apart. More importantly, your skin is a source of protection for you. It is constantly repairing and reconstructing itself. All that is needed from you is that you take care of it.
It is important for you to be aware of what your skin type is before making any decision on the purchasing of skin care products. There are four major skin types: sensitive skin, normal/combination skin, oily skin and dry skin. Each skin type requires different skin care products in order to maintain your skin at its peak.
A regular daily skin care routine is essential for your skin. Your first step should be to gently wash your face using a very mild soap or cleanser and try with a soft towel. You should then apply a toner and a moisturiser to avoid your skin drying out. If you suffer from acne, you can also apply a topical acne treatment. Once or twice a week, if you choose, you can apply an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells, but be careful as harsh or excessive scrubbing can damage your skin.
Try to keep your skin protected from the harsh rays of the sun, particularly when the sun is at its zenith. Apply sunscreen when you intend to be spending a prolonged period of time outside, but be certain to thoroughly remove all traces of it later to avoid clogging your pores. Excessive exposure to the sun's ultra violet rays can potentially result in other, more serious health problems such as skin cancer.
It is possible to protection your skin with good nutrition. Eat a healthy diet containing plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains such as brown rice and oats, and lean proteins in order to maintain your skin. Also, drink plenty of water (the recommended daily intake of water is eight glasses) so that your skin does not appear dry. According to recent scientific studies, a diet rich in vitamin C, carbohydrates and low fats may result in your skin looking younger.
Try and keep your stress levels under control. Excessive stress can cause your skin to change, and become more sensitive. When you are stressed, there is a higher chance of acne breakouts as well as other skin problems.
We are only given one skin. While it is constantly regenerating itself, it needs your help to maintain it in peak condition, so take care of it the best that you can.
