Why Is Mineral Make Up So Special?

Mineral make up has taken the spotlight time and again

, as consumers make the switch from non-mineral cosmetics, to the mineralized ones.

Initially, the branding of mineralized products was thought to offer a more nourishing finish for your skin. While this is true, the consumer demand for more products made from natural ingredients forced cosmetic companies to rethink the ingredients in their products.

You can find mineralized versions of most powdered cosmetics, including eyeshadows, blushers and pressed or loose powder foundations. The benefits to mineral make up are plenty. Not only are you offering your skin something with healthful benefits, you are avoiding dangerous chemical ingredients.

Most make up was traditionally made using a variety of synthetic ingredients, to allow depth of colour and long lasting wear. While it was a cheap and quick form of producing goods, the consumer ended up with a strange brew of contaminants and even carcinogens on their face. Knowledge is indeed power, and as the buying public began to recognize the dangers of traditional make up, the era of mineral make up was ushered in.

Extracting minerals from earth based sources such as plants, grasses and soils, offers the cosmetic manufacturer to produce a non-toxic and durable make up that won't bring about a backlash. Getting back to nature by utilizing natural sources is better for our skin, our bodies and our environment.

While some might consider the harvesting of minerals to create cosmetics an assault on our eco-system, the opposite is actually true. Using natural products as a base results in less harmful emissions being added to our eco-system. Also, natural products are generally bio-degradable. Chemically produced cosmetics, don't break down but can be washed into the earth, effectively adding their poison to the soil.

So mineral make up has good reason to be in the spotlight. Not only is it available in rich and varied colours and textures, it's better for our skin, our health and the world we live in.
