Why Kiosks So Popular?
A kiosk is a machine that offers a self service facility
. The self service that a kiosk provides can vary from providing information and checking visitors in, to dealing with transactions. Companies are finding that a kiosk can be used in more and more ways to help them to deliver a faster and more effective self service facility to their customers.
A retail kiosk offers a quick self service alternative to customers. Instead of waiting in a queue to have a sales assistant serve them, they can go to the fast lane and have a kiosk serve them. The great thing about retail kiosks is that one sales staff can man 4 to 6 retail kiosk. This not only helps the customers get through the check outs quicker, but it also helps to elevate the store of all those customers during busy times. No one wants to shop in a shop that's packed to the rafters with long check out queues. Kiosks help to empty the shop of customers who have already selected their purchases.
This also has the effect of increasing sales during busy times because shoppers are less inclined to leave the shop before making a purchase due to delays and long queues.
In the Health sector, telehealth kiosks help to elevate queues and waiting times in waiting rooms. A self check in kiosk in a GP or hospital waiting room makes it quick and easy for patient to notify the medical staff that they have arrived for their appointment. The kiosk no only can check people in but can also remind them of other medical issues, such as reminding them when they need their next blood test or flu jab. A kiosk can also book future appointments with the nurse or doctors.
Some telehealth kiosks also show patients surveys or questionnaires about their health, or patient feedback on the service that they have received. The kiosk performs simple tasks, but tasks that never the less take up time to perform.
A health service kiosk saves the medical staff time. In the case of a medical receptionist, it might take her 2 minutes to tell a patient about the patient feedback form, and to ask that patient to complete it, which doesn't sound long. However when she has asked 40 patients about the form this adds up to 80 minutes. Imaging how that hour and 20 minutes could have been used.
The labour saving and quick service provided by a kiosk is the key to their success. Kiosks provide an efficient self service option, at cost effective prices.
