Why Need A Water Softener?
Most homes have hard water problems without knowing about it
. Hard water is a reality for millions of Americans.
As per the U.S. Geological Survey, 85% of American homes have problems with hard water. Hard water comes from underground sources that collect dissolved minerals from rock particularly calcium, magnesium carbonate, and manganese. These minerals make the water hard which is almost inappropriate to drink & in certain use. The hardness is measured by grains per gallon (GPG) or in some cases by parts per million (PPM).
Hard Water Facts:
There are many indications by which we can know that the water we are using is hard or soft. The most recognizable ways mention below:-
Stains present on your sinks and bathtubs: The minerals in hard water will cause yellow stains on plumbing fixtures and be deposited as scale, eventually clogging plumbing and shortening the life of appliances like washing machines, water heaters and dishwashers.
Need to use huge amounts of soap: While taking bath you can clearly observe that you use soap more while cleaning your hair or skin but there is not much foaming as the amount of soap used. Sometime while washing clothes or dishes you can also observe that the amount of foaming is not that enough as compare to soap used by you. You have to use more soap to foam properly. Sometime dishes are also not washed properly though good amount of soap used by you .One can observe yellow or some odd rashes on the dish.
Water tastes or smells odd: While drinking the water you can get taste of minerals which are dissolved in hard water & so it tastes bitter or odd than normal drinking water. You can also get odd or unpleasant smell from hard water.
The role of water softener:
The water softeners soften the water by removing the calcium and magnesium found in hard water. Soft water can increase the life of water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, coffeemakers, humidifiers and household plumbing systems by as much as 30%.
Soft Water makes a difference you can feel and see all over the house. There are obvious changes in all the aspects for which we are using soft water but some clearly observable differences due to the use of soft water are indicated below.
In the Bathroom: Your soap and shampoo will lather better. Your hair and skin will feel noticeably leaner, softer, and not as dry. There will be no soap scum or mineral deposits to clean off sinks, showers, tubs and toilets.
In the Laundry: Clothes will be softer, cleaner, whiter and brighter. Plus they will last longer. Using soft water and pure soap products increases the life of clothing, towels and linens up to 33%. Without hard water service issues, washing machines last longer, too.
In the Kitchen: Dishes will clean up more easily, and be spot free, without the gray film glasses get when etched by mineral-laden water. Plus hands will feel softer and look better.
Throughout the House: Water-using appliances will last longer and run better. Because hot water heaters, washing machines and dishwashers used with hard water can wear out 30% faster.
