Why Not Go Bald Gracefully?

By the age of 60, the majority of men will have experienced some form of hair loss. Male pattern hair loss, more commonly referred to as baldness, can start in different areas but usually appears at the temples and/or on the crown of the head. The thinning of hair progresses over a number of years and may eventually lead to total baldness. More common, however, is hair loss that usually occurs over the top of the head. Most men are genetically predisposed to hair loss

So why do men feel ashamed and less worthy just because they are losing their hair? One is fear of not being considered attractive. Think about some of the movies we've seen where the villain is portrayed as a bald man. How often is a bald man the leading love interest or the hero in a movie or television show you have seen? Men are ashamed to be bald because it shows the world they are getting older. It is hard to accept that fact in a society that praises youth and beauty. Hair loss commercials we see focus only on those men with a full head of hair as being deemed worthy and appealing. The bald men are shown frowning and sad and alone whilst their male counterparts with thick, luxurious hair are seen smiling with women draped all over them. Many men simply do not feel like a man when they are experiencing male pattern hair loss. They feel helpless. If you are overweight, you have the option of joining a gym. There is nothing that can be done to prevent hair loss.

There is a reason the hair loss industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and, unfortunately, today's society makes it hard for a man to lose his hair and not lose some confidence along with it. Sadly, many men do not know how to bald gracefully and will attempt anything and everything to keep their bald heads hidden. Perhaps they wear a baseball cap everywhere they go. Some even try the comb over in an attempt to hide the bald spot, which only makes their hair loss more noticeable and silly looking. Millions of men have spent countless dollars seeking the cure for hair loss. Commercials promising that you will grow a new head of hair and be the envy of every man and the desire of every woman are just another example of how society views those who are bald as unworthy, unsuccessful and unattractive.
