Why One Dressing Gown is Quite Simply Not Enough
My favourite item of clothing is without question, the dressing gown, I say the' because I have seven of them. This may sound a little excessive but when you consider that most women have more than one coat then why wouldn't we also have more than one dressing gown?!
There is the reliable everyday coat that we wear to work, then there is the walking coat, the warm and well-worn one that we wear when walking the dog and other such activities that involve potentially disheveled outcomes. And then there is the fancy one, the coat that we wear for the best of occasions, nights out on the town, dinner parties and more formal occasions.
Like the coat, there is also a plethora of occasions when a dressing gown is called for, and similar to the wearing of a coat, many of these occasions require options.
The Weekend Away
Every lady needs a perfect weekend dressing gown, the weekender dressing gown needs to pack extremely well, it should be the last thing that goes into the travel bag as it should roll into the tiniest bundle taking up very little space in the weekend bag. The weekender' gown is just perfect for late breakfasts on the veranda, those indulgent evenings of room service and for the all important dash across the corridor to the bathroom!
The Cold Winters
My winter dressing gown is the most faithful, oldest item of clothing in my wardrobe and it is the most treasured. My winter warmer is quickly becoming a family heirloom that once belonged to my Dad, it is oversized, frayed, worn and tatty and I just love it, especially on a cold winter morning. The winter warmer' sees me safely from underneath the warmth of the duvet, across the cold landing and into the shower, it makes this reluctant transition from snooze to wide-awake mode much more bearable.
Romantic Evenings
Whilst the winter warmer is my most treasured dressing gown it simply will not fit the bill for those romantic evenings in when the room is a glow with candlelight and love ballads. A little less volume and a little more elegance and seduction is required in a dressing gown that cuts the shape of the female form.
The Holiday Gown
There is something very elegant about wearing a dressing gown poolside or at the beach, a dressing gown is certainly much easier than a kaftan or summer dress to slip on and off by the pool or on the beach, it certainly will not compromise the hairdo or interfere with the sun hat and shades either. Today there are so many dressing gowns available in light, breezy fabrics with bright, colourful prints that it seems a shame to keep these attractive gowns exclusively for indoor use. It seems that everyday another celebrity is spotted wearing their dressing gown in public, what better place to test this trend than by water, when quick dressing is often required?
There are so many other occasions when the dressing gown is the first thing we often reach for, when we are under the weather, when dressing for a night out, during breakfast and those rainy days working from home Oh come on, we all do it, don't we?!
How can we possibly wear the same one garment for all of the ocassions mentioned above?! If we were to do so, what would we wear when our one dressing gown happened to be in the wash?!!
Fortunately there are so many different styles of dressing gowns to suit all and every occasion perfectly from long, mid-length or short to warm, absorbent , moderate or minimal today, there really is a dressing gown for every occasion to suit every need!
