There are quite a few changes that need to be considered in order for a parrot to be cheerful and flourish in their new home.

It is essential when caring for a parrot that enough research is carried out in order to provide the correct diet daily. The real contents of a healthy balanced diet should be clean water daily for a start along with seed with a vitamin supplement, fresh fruit and vegetables as well as pellets.

Birds generally are thought of as "dirty" pets to look after but it is really important to keep your parrots' cage clean. Their dishes and even their perches should be cleaned on a daily basis using mild soap and water. Owners should be aware that a parrots nails will need to be cut on a regular basis Their nails should be clipped around every three to four weeks depending on their length and overgrown nails can cause significant problems for a parrot, anything from toes getting caught on toys all the way up to not being able to walk properly and even falling of their perch!! Even though a parrots beak grows at all times also, it is less of a concern as parrots grind their beaks when they forage for food and explore. It is a good idea for their birdcage to have some sand in it as this will be beneficial also.

Parrots in the wild utilize rain showers to keep their feathers and plumage in perfect condition and owners can mist or bath their birds once a day using fresh clean water from a sprayer or a water bottle.

The more effort and care an owner puts into looking after their parrot the more they are blessed with a healthy companion who they can share a long life with.
