While frequent flyer cards can be a valuable asset to both business travelers and

the average consumer alike, there are some people out there who still avoid applying for such a credit card. Whether they just dont understand how such cards could be used to their advantage or are dissuaded by high annual fees or interest rates, the reasons why people avoid such cards can be numerous and varied. Here are a few of the more common reasons as to why people dont apply for frequent flyer cards.

Intimidation

A large part of why people may not apply for frequent flyer cards might be intimidation. Sometimes it is difficult to know which card to choose or whether to choose one at all. It isnt that using the card itself for purchases is necessarily frightening to people, it is that there is a lack of knowledge or understanding when it comes to the application process. All that fine print, choosing the proper card, understanding rates, fees, restrictions, and what the card will actually cost them or how it could help them, can be a scary and confusing proposition for some prospective applicants.

The Application Process

In this increasingly dangerous world of internet thievery and stolen identities, many people are still wary of putting their personal information out there. Whether by way of the internet or a mailed application, salary and personal information being placed in the hands of someone an applicant has never met can be worrisome. Still others feel that their chances of being approved for such a card are so minimal that it would not be worth their time to apply in the first place, even though they may be accepted if they should.

Annual Fees and Interest Rates

Annual fees can be a detractor to applying for a frequent flyer card for certain applicants. Not only can annual fees be a bit hefty with certain cards, but there may also be a fee just to join. These fees, accompanied by high interest rates can act as a strong deterrent to such cards.

However, it is important to bear in mind that high interest rates will typically only affect a cardholder if they carry a balance. Therefore, whether these interest rates ever come into play is largely in the cardholders hands. It is also important to remember that while fees can seem high at first, if properly and frequently used, the rewards associated with frequent flyer cards may bring the recipient much greater value over the course of time.
