Why People Wear Animal Jewelry
Today, if you do a quick window shopping or simply browse through the internet
, you wont fail to see beautiful collections of animal jewelry presently available. Today, seeing all these jewelry with different kinds of animals on them does not seem very unusual, but it is quite interesting if we take a look back at why people started wearing animal jewelry in the first place.
In the Book of Genesis it is stated that God gave the humans dominion over all the animals. But as man traveled through history, that is, from the time of Genesis up to the present, man came to have certain affections towards some of the animals. Dogs have been called as mans best friends. A cute little kitten can soften the heart of a huge menacing wrestler. The play of the dolphins can bring joy to children as well as grownups. Poets wrote about the songs of the nightingales. Indeed man has come to appreciate the other life forms that live together with him on this planet. And many even came to love them.
People came to adore and love animals to the extent that cartoons and movies were made with the main protagonists being animals. One can only think of movies like the Black Beauty and Lassie and Walt Disney Animations like Bambi and the Lion King to recall how those movies and cartoons became Box Office Hits. And think of all the children, and even many adults like Mr. Bean for one, who have teddy bears sleep with them at night or taking a rubber ducky to bath.
In the Jewelry market today youll find all sorts of animal jewelry made of gold or fine sterling silver. Youll find jewelry shaped into dogs, cats, butterflies, doves, dolphins, lizards, turtles, frogs, and even snakes. If we look at all those beautiful animal jewelry worn by people the world over, maybe God had another purpose in creating animals. Maybe they are meant to keep man company. Just think of what Good Old Charlie Brown would be without Snoopy.
