Why Should I Declutter My Home? 3 Good Reasons

Let's be honest, nobody likes living in or visiting a cluttered home

. I think there are actually 3 big explanations why decluttering your space is important. These were my motives when I went from cluttered and depressed to organized and happy.

Reason #1 - Stress There is a direct correlation between stress and clutter This has been proven in several scientific studies. People who are in cluttered and unorganzied environments experience more stress than those who live in organized, clutter-free spaces. Could you experience this? I know I could. My cluttered house can cause stress in a number of ways. I simply hate looking and being in a cluttered room because I feel messy, I don't like it. I feel like my possessions have more control over me than the other way around. I also hate when I can't find something important because my house is so cluttered. There is a ton of energy, not only physical energy, wasted when you spend minutes or hours searching for things.

Time is the second reason. These days, everyone is super busy and living in a disorganized home eats up a lot of your time because you're constantly looking for things. If everything has its place and you always know where everything is, then you don't waste any moments looking for things. A decluttered house, with everything in its correct spot, is an important way to save time. You'll feel much better because of all the time you're saving.

Reason #3 - Appearance. This is kinda dishearting to hear, but people really do get judged by their peers for being cluttered and unorganized. If your friends, family or co-workers see you are a cluttered mess who is always losing things, they're going to think you're a less capable and competent person. That is a fact. Work hard to show people your true colors, not the messiness of clutter!

The key to the sometimes overwhelming task of decluttering, is to start small. Little by little you will get it done. You'll find great help online when decluttering.
