Why The Kos Island Itinerary Is So Popular In Greek Island Yacht Charters

Its certainly a great time to be thinking about private yacht charters to the amazing Greek Islands

. Schools are out practically everywhere and the moment youve been waiting for all year has arrived. The season where families get together and spend some good quality time in tropical places, where kids are looking forward to creating some big splashes in the sea, and everyone else is out for peaceful and relaxing pleasures to release all of that built up stress from their daily lives.

The Greek Islands are wonderful as they address people of all ages. Whether you are a group of friends and family, or couples looking to explore ancient cultures and fit in some summer romance, Greece is certainly one of the most popular hot spots in the Aegean for summertime fun, excitement and pleasure.

A very well recognized and preferred place for yacht charter holidays is the island of Kos, located in the North Dodecanese. Kos is the second largest island of the 12 islands in the Dodecanese. You can enjoy a very mild climate and very fertile lands. The island houses a 560-year-old tree, a 211-year-old fountain and a 290 km long beach. You may take a quick swim in Lambi Beach which is very close to Kos Harbour. Kos is also known as one of the places to offer the best night life. Nafklirou, a street full of bars, is always crowded, colourful, and full of life.

The itinerary begins in Kos where guests board the boat and settle in. Later there is an introduction to yacht and crew. The first night of the gulet cruise is spent in Kos. So guests will have a chance to explore the towns, shops, restaurants and nightlife.

On the second day, the boat cruises early in the morning to the island of Pserimos for a lovely Turkish breakfast on board. After breakfast there is time for some swimming in the bay as the heat begins to rise. Once everyone is back on the gulet, the captain sets course for the beautiful island of Leros. This island offers lush green hilltops, somewhat mountainous with high cliffs and a variety of small bays and villages. A nice lunch will be served in Leros while guests enjoy the scenery. Shortly after lunch there is an opportunity for another cooling off while guests can have a swimming break in Xerakampos, however the gulet will be anchoring in either Lakki harbor or Agia Marina located to the east. Its a great opportunity to visit the main city of Platanos the main city of Leros. The city presents narrow streets, steep stairs and lovely flower gardens. From Plantanos there is a path guests can take of steps leading to the castle of Leros. But be prepared to climb 300 steps to reach the castle! An enjoyable way to enjoy the island is either by foot or by motor scooter.

On day 3 your captain will set course to Patmos Island in the early hours of the morning. Guests will have a swimming break shortly after breakfast in the bay. Although Patmos is not a very big island, it is quite well known and a popular place of anchor. History has it that St. John completed the last part of the Apocalypse of John here and that is why Patmos is sometimes called The Jerusalem of the Aegean. The Monastery of St. Johns towers above the capital, a village called Chora, and actually the whole island breathes of faith and devotion. According to mythology, Patmos was a present from Zeus to his daughter Artemis, goddess of hunting and young women. She was worshipped here in antiquity, and the monastery of St. John was built on her temple.

Guests may have a walk through the monasteries after breakfast here. Dinner will be served while anchored in Patmos Port for an overnight stay.

The fourth day takes us to the island of Lipsi. The gulet will be anchored in front of the island at one of the smaller islands where guests can lounge leisurely and go for a refreshing morning swim. This is another one of the more beautiful islands of Greece with its gorgeous sandy beaches, like Platis and Giolos, that line the crystal turquoise green waters. On the south side of the island, the town of Lipsi is decorated with white washed houses, a variety of traditional taverns, cafes and restaurants along the waterfront off its main port. Constructed in the 7th century, the Church of the Catopanaghia along with the Church of Panopanaghia from the 15th century is certainly worth a visit.

A popular anchor point for gulet charters in Greece Kalimnos Island

The next day will begin with a swimming break in a beautiful bay around Kalimnos Island. Later guests will cruise to Pothia Harbour the capital of the Kalimnos. This is the closest island to the shores of Turkey. For many centuries, the islanders ensured their livelyhood with sponge diving. There are nice beaches such as Massouri, Mirties and Vlyhadia that can be explored. The island of Kalimnos is surrounded by some of the finest limestone crags and considered among the top climbing destinations in the world. There is certainly much to enjoy on Kalimnos.

This Greek Island hopping itinerary comes to an end as on the second last day of the week long gulet cruise holiday, the gulet will be returning to Kos where guests can again have a lovely swimming break. Later dinner will be served in the harbor followed by an overnight stay. The following morning, guests will bid their farewells after another fulfilling Turkish breakfast and continue back to their homes with precious memories of their yacht charter vacation in Greece.
