Why Used Cardboard Moving Boxes?

Just about everyone has to move at some point in their lives

. Hence, we will all be in need of moving boxes eventually. Currently, we are dealing with economic down spell that doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon.

With unemployment rates as high as they are, many are moving to more affordable housing. Moving comes with quite a few costs, particularly if moving long distances. So saving as much money as possible during a move is a priority for many people. Boxes can certainly be a fairly significant expense, depending on how many rooms you are moving. With used cardboard moving boxes, you can cut back on expenses and help the environment in the process.

What's nice about cardboard boxes in general, as opposed to plastic, is that they are very sturdy yet can be packed flat for easy storage. Not to mention that these boxes are in such large supply that you may even be able to find some for free.

Used boxes are more environmentally friendly, as they don't require any more trees to be cut down. They are typically very lightly used, as often times people only need them once or twice. Think about all the people who move and have absolutely no need for their boxes once everything has been unpacked. What's unfortunate is that these boxes are sometimes just thrown away, instead of given to someone else who could use them or recycled.

However, there are people out there who are willing to either give their moving boxes away or re-sell them for a small fee. You can check your local newspaper for advertisements and online as well.

If you know someone who has moved recently, you can check with them to see if they still have their boxes. If they do, then offer to pay a fee for them. Chances are however that they would be more than happy to give them to you since they no longer have a need for them.

If quality isn't as important to you, then book stores, grocery stores, and other retail shops probably have some empty boxes around. Keep in mind though that these boxes probably won't be in the best shape. The other problem is that they may not have the right box sizes for what you need. It's best to buy cardboard moving boxes at least for the most valuable items you possess. This includes dishes, glassware, and anything fragile.
