The Emotional Intelligence paradigm is made up of the following; Thoughts - Feelings - Actions/Behaviors - Results

Thoughts lead to a feeling which leads to an action or behavior which then leads to a result.

Our thoughts and feelings we cannot control and the world doesn't see.

Our actions and behaviors and the results of those actions/behaviors are seen by the world.

The key to Emotional Intelligence is to possess the awareness to be proactive with our actions and behaviors regardless of our thoughts and feelings. We must use that awareness to positively change our behavior/actions which will then change the results we realize into positive results. If we allow our "defaults" to hi-jack us we may exhibit negative actions/behaviors and thus negative results.

The other key to Emotional Intelligence is grace or empathy. Everyone is fighting a battle. Some are fighting an emotional battle, some financial and others are battling with their health. Some are battling more than one...

In most cases we don't know the pain of the people we are dealing with. Thus in order to get the most out of every personal interaction we must give that person the benefit of the doubt. We must enter into the interaction with the thinking that that person is in pain.

If we give everyone the grace of someone in pain, we are more likely to put our ego and pride aside to make the most of that interaction and thus build that relationship.

How we behave (our actions) is always our choice. Some people are more aware of their behavior choices and why we make them than others (Emotional Intelligence) but we are all in control of our behaviors and actions. If we all practiced Emotional Intelligence everyday would we achieve more happiness?I believe we would.

I hope this piece will create additional awareness for everyone who reads this. I hope the awareness will lead to improved behavior choices. I hope the improved behavior choices will lead to deeper and more meaningful relationships and a happier more productive life.
