Why You Have Stretch Marks And What You Can Do About Them by:Abigail McKenzee
A lot of persons suffer from stretch marks and don't know why
. In the beginning they are light purple or red marks; many women get them around the breasts and belly-button in the later stages of pregnancy. Actually, everybody can get them, even thin teens. They appear practically anywhere the body stores larger amounts of fat. The skin around the mark feels soft to the touch and the stretch mark itself feels like a dent in the skin. Those indentations can get more profoundand longer if the skin is stretched more. Even though these marks may become lighter with time, the dents and color change never go away.
How Do Stretch Marks Form
Stretching alone is not the cause, even though it is obviously the main reason. The problem is the skin support within the dermis, the resilient middle layer of the skin. When the skin is growing the elastin fibers and collagen give it firmity. Cortisol, a type of glucocorticoid hormone is vital for the organism as they keep up many important functions, but they are also responsible for stretch marks because they prevent the fibroblasts from forming elastin fibers and collagen.
So, stretch marks appear when the skin is lacking of collagen and elastin fibers and at the same time is stretched, the epidermis, the outer skin layer and the dermis are torn. A stretch mark is a kind of scar tissue, meaning the skin is irrevocably destroyed and can't be renewed again naturally. We should be glad this natural healing system exists, but unfortunately scar tissues do not fulfill the same functions as original, healthy skin. And scar removal is difficult and often involves surgery.
Pregnant Women Are More Apt To Get Them
It's common knowledge that pregnant women at times go crazy over nothing. This is due to their hormones going wild. The high hormone level and the fast growing breasts and belly cause stretch marks. Scientists also associate cellulite formation to hormonal inbalances. Scientific studies have so far not found a good cure for stretch marks once they have formed. It is possible though, to prevent them by applying moisturizing cream and exfoliation of the skin, for example with a wooden massage bar after taking a bath.
Stretch Mark Treatment ()
So, what can be done about those ugly marks? Like cellulite treatment or anticellulite creams, stretch mark treatment consists of treating the symptoms, the cause cannot be eradicated. Moisturizing creams against stretch marks can be compared with cellulite creams; they do not help in every case. Some people, probably due to their hormonal condition, are just more apt to get stretch marks.
In TV reality shows you can often see people who undergo surgery to get back their perfect looks. Tummy tuck, skin lasering and collagen injections - don't you find it horribly unnatural? It's more advisable to try out natural skin care lotions (
