So you think you want an external hardrive? Want to be able to backup your documents and pictures quickly and easily? . Well creating a backup to an external hardrive is super simple and so much faster than other backup system I've ever tried. I know a lot of people use various types of backup devices but a portable external hard drive is by far the fastest and largest backup medium you can get for the money. You will definitely want to back up all of your itunes music files, pictures, family movies, bookmarks, outlook contacts...I mean you can most definitely create a backup of almost anything you've got on your computer.

That fact is that an external hardrive is easily disconnected from your pc and you are able to take it anywhere. Not only does it further protect your priceless information, the portability of the device means you can have this data accessible anywhere you go. You should always store your device in a separate location from your computer that you backed up...right? I mean what if there was a fire or a flood of some kind? Why would you not want to have the cheapest, fastest, easiest to use, largest backup storage drive at your disposal? I can't think of a good reason why.

You need to utilize some kind of software to automate backup jobs on your computer so that you don't forget things as you would if you dragged and dropped files manually every time. I believe that every windows operating system since and including windows XP has a built in backup module that you can use. It may not be the best solution for creating your backup jobs but it will work and it's free. Please set up reminders for yourself to create your backups on a routine basis. When your done with a backup, take your external hardrive offsite and store is safely.

If you have more than one computer, use a different portable external hardrive for each one as it will make your life easier...trust me. I have a drive for all three of my computers with labels on each to identify which computer belongs to which, that way I don't have to remember. Is that clear? Hope so.
