You might not be able to take a vacation at the same time every year, but a timeshare requires you to. You might be able to sublet the property or switch with another group if the company allows it, but there's no guarantee that you will be able to do that.

For many people, timeshare vacation packages just don't match up to vacation clubs that can offer freedom, flexibility, and savings. You can go where you want, at a time to suit you.
