Why You Should Visit Farmers Markets
Over the weekend, I discovered a local farmers' market
, which isn't
but about a seven minute drive from my front door. Imagine my
feeling of not knowing much, when I was told the market had been
around for eight years. The good part of the story is that I now
know where to buy some superlative fruits and vegetables, at well
below grocery store prices. I can even order meat and poultry, that
hasn't been injected or subjected to hormones, antibiotics, and God
knows what else.
The good things continued when I also discovered that none of the
vendors was a vegetarian, or a vegan, who have more in common with
the Taliban than they might like to admit. No, these were ordinary
folks, who like to grow things in as natural an environment as
possible, just like our grandparents did, a few moons back.
There wasn't any pushy green agenda going on, just really nice food,
laid out on about twenty-four different stalls. The first stall I
stopped at had at least a dozen different kinds of tomatoes, all
grown in the woman's back yard, with an assist from her daughter.
I'm not talking about different red tomatoes, the kind found in most
grocery and big box stores. I'm talking about yellow tomatoes,
purple tomatoes, orange, even a speckled tomato and I tried a sample
of all of them. I bought large ones of four different colors and
then four more, of varying sizes, shapes and colors.
That wasn't even all she had to offer, as she said she has more
varieties coming in the next couple of weeks. I feel like a kid in a
candy store and can't wait to return. All in all, I left there with
well over 15 pounds of various vegetables and not a one had any wax
on it, or had been sprayed with anything to retard spoilage.
Later that evening, I made a salad of just thick sliced tomatoes
with just a touch of sea salt and freshly ground pepper and a few
drops of olive oil. I don't like to brag (well...maybe a smidge),
but that was as good as any high fallutin' Frenchman ever put on a
plate (and it cost a damn sight less).
I know not everyone can spend the time it takes to go to a farmer's
market. We're all working, all the time, to support the Obamanation
and it's destructive policies, which would include taxing the folks
doing this, to the point where they would have to stop. But if you
have a few extra minutes, buy some of this unadulterated food,
because as somebody says, it will do a body good (namely, yours).
There is a difference between what's grown by hand and what is
produced industrially. You might even find that you will like some
things you wrote off years ago.
Unfortunately, there isn't enough of this food to go around to
everybody. But you should get it if you can, because then, all the
benefits these foods provide go to work for you, without any
drawbacks.
That's why pharmaceutical grade fish oil is so important. It gives you
the benefits of a superfood, without actually having to consume the
food itself. For those of you who don't care for seafood, this is
especially important, because I know full well that if you don't
like something, even if it's extremely beneficial, you're not going
to eat it.
But swallowing a couple of capsules, a couple of times a day, is
easy and you get the full benefit of having consumed the food
itself. I'll bet George Bush 41 wishes there was a broccoli formula,
if you know what I mean.
