Why Your Website Needs To Turn Back To The Backlink

Optimizing your site for keywords your target market uses to find the product or service your provide is all well and good

. Very good, in fact.

But another important part of optimizing your website for the search engines is the simple backlink.

A backlink is a link from another site to yours. Backlinks can come from blogs, Tweets (Twitter posts), Facebook posts, articles you've submitted to article directories for distribution.

The more links that head back to your website, the more the search engine "spiders" will take notice. The search engines equate the backlinks to "authority," in that if many sites link to you, you must have something very worthwhile to say. And therefore your website is one that provides visitors with valuable information.

The more "value" your website can show the spiders, the higher it will rank in search results.

So How Do I Go About Getting Backlinks?

First of all, be sure you provide your visitors with great content. Give them something worthwhile (that word "worth" again) to read. Give them information. Provide value. Tell them something they didn't already know. Make them think. Make them angry. Make them happy.

Engage visitors and chances are they will share your site with others. That is, they will link to your site from theirs, giving you the much-wanted and valuable backlink.

Some More Ways to Get Backlinks

Write articles about your product or service. Write general, informational articles. For example, if you're a plumber, write articles about how homeowners can keep pipes free of clogs, how to clean a clogged drain, and so on.

Then submit the article to one or several (several is best) free article directories that abound on the Web. Place a link to your website in the resource box at the end of the article. That's one backlink.

Another way to get backlinks is to read blogs and participate in forums about your business. Offer comments that provide value about the post or forum topic. Place a link in your signature line back to your website. There's another backlink.

Write a news release about your business (you've added staff, you have a new product line or you offer a new service, etc.) and submit it to free and fee news release distribution sites. You'll have a link in the release to your site. Another backlink.

Start a blog. Talk about your industry. Write about your opinion of trends within it. Post about how you run your day-to-day business (people love to read about the people behind the website). Be sure to link your blog posts to your business website (and be sure to post a link to your blog from your main website, as well).
