When doing an important matter, we see to it that we always prepare for a worst case scenario

. When faced with an adversity it is human nature that urges us to take action and protect ourselves. Security in every sense is something everyone needs; In our society we always strive to achieve financial and social stability.We take precautionary measures in securing ourselves to avoid situations wherein our business, financial stability etc. are in danger hence in a case of an online business we make backups of our data and websites.

It makes me laugh when I remember it, during the era of floppy disks as storage medium I don't usually backup my files not until a bad incident. This is what happened:I had a school project to be stored and submitted on floppy drives. Once done, I stored it on my floppy disk then submitted it. Not knowingly the floppy disk that I submitted corrupted. Soon after I have got the greatest humiliation of my life: being made fun of the class for not making file backups.

I managed to learn through that episode, at the moment I always do multiple backups and practice maximum precautions when doing something important.

It makes me ponder why some website owners and online marketers don't value their data security. In fact some owners don't do scheduled website backups some do not even backup at all.

Consider this analogy: Real life institutions do know the importance of security, as they take expensive insurances, smoke detectors & fire sprinklers installations, security camera installments, infrastructure and wiring check as well as database backups etc.; The virtual market is really not that different. In an online business it is their data and user base that creates their success; I find it odd that some owners doesn't take such measures and backup their website or database files when their source of income is always at the risk of failures and malicious attacks.

If you take a good look at the situation it is no different at all. A website owner needs to protect his data just as real life business owners need to protect their office documents. After all, the data is all that they have in contrast to real life business who has written records along with a database.

The website data files is all that you have to keep your web 2.0 website, business or blog running so why not backup? Every bit of effort you had put into your website is worth the backup. Your website and your community doesn't deserve a disastrous breakdown so backup now to protect your data.
