Wichita Plumbing Problems - Steps To Take In An Emergency
As with anywhere else, if you live in Wichita plumbing emergencies can happen
. You may just open the door to your house one day, to find that you've come home to a flood. So, on the off-chance this happens to you down the road, here are some tips that might just come in handy:
Shut down the main water valve at once! If you arrive home to water seeping out everywhere, find the main valve and shut off the supply as soon as you can. THEN you can look for the source of the leak. It's usually not too hard to locate - just find the point the water stopped when you turned it off, and walk backwards.
Call your property management company if you rent - or your insurance company if you own your house. Once the water is shut off and you have found where the leak started, call the proper entity and let them know what happened. This is the second most important thing you should do - after making sure you shut the water off at the source so no more water damage occurs, of course.
And, whatever you do, do NOT call your own repair person to start the work unless you are given permission. To do so on your own could cause any claim that would have been paid by the agency, to become null and void - leaving the bill to YOU. Instead, let them choose a repair person or restoration company of their own to come out and inspect the damage - and to make sure that no further damage occurs. This way, if something goes wrong with the work the technician does once he's at your home, any consequences are on the insurance company or your landlord - not you.
Be aware you will have to speak with a claims adjuster. No matter who is responsible for setting the ball in motion, know that you will have to speak with a claims adjuster at some point. So be prepared - this means write down all the details you noticed upon seeing the flood, so you will have an accurate account of the situation when they ask you to describe it.
Once the investigation by the adjuster has been completed, you will be informed as to what they have found. If you rent - great! Even if it is the owner's responsibility, it won't be yours. If you own your place, however, be aware that the fault could be determined to be YOURS, and you may be responsible for footing the bill to fix it.
Regardless of who is found to be at fault, also know that this little situation could cause your insurance premiums - or your monthly rent - to rise. And, although it may not seem like justice is served if you have to take on some of the financial burden when you did nothing wrong to begin with - remember, rising costs of living, and the things that go along with it, often tend to roll "downhill" to be absorbed by all concerned.
