Wicked is a popular musical that has taken three of the top fundraising awards

. The respective Oz musical has generated lots of money when it comes to Broadway shows, bringing in a whopping 208,8800(us dollars). The "Emerald City" company has also been a money generator amongst the national tours, and has made a staggering 239,883(us dollars). But it is the "Munchkinland" touring company of the respective musical titled Wicked that has made more money than all other musicals bringing in a grand total of around 251,332(us dollars). This money has been donated in the fight against AIDS.

Fences, which is yet another Broadway front-runner and is even more popular than the Wicked), has bagged a total of 10 nominations, which include nominations for the best play revival, for the best director and also lead actor and actress.

The songwriter for this Broadway musical has made songs that can be categorized as bittersweet as were his recent musicals that included The Magic Show and Working that manages to strike a chord with the audience in spite of the harsh comments its been receiving from the critics. In fact a critic named John Lahr had gone to the extent of writing that out of the 22 songs that had been included in this musical and had been penned by Stephen Schwartz, not a single one of them is worth mentioning.

Schwartz and the talented composer named Alan Menken had bagged the Academy Award for giving the best original musical score for Pocahontas back in the mid nineties, in the year 1996 to be precise. Schwart says that he had always believed the story to be a great concept for a musical.
