Will A Courier Service Help Me Package My Shipment?
If you haven't used a courier service before then its best to get a clear understanding
of what services that company will provide for you, and which ones they won't. This can get a bit more confusing because in recent years courier companies have really branched out in terms of what kinds of services they are offering. What used to be just a delivery company might now be an Atlanta courier service which also offers storage, document filing, secure medical deliveries, logistical consultations and more. However, in almost every case your courier company isn't going to offer you the service of packing your shipment for you, so that probably isn't a service that you should expect from them.
When you sign up for a courier company, many of them will take the time to go over with you the rights and responsibilities that you have as a client of that company. Some might even provide you with a written set of guidelines in this regard. Most of the time, you will notice that one thing in regards to packaging will leap out at you. It is the company's responsibility to transport your package safely without subjecting it to any conditions or stresses not part of the normal act of shipping, but it is almost always your responsibility as a customer's to package your own shipments correctly. Not only do you have to do this yourself, but it is important that you do so correctly, because if you have to ever make an insurance claim on a package you may have to provide proof of how it was packaged by keeping the original packaging. If you did not adequately protect your package for shipping you might not be able to make a successful claim if the courier damaged it in some way during transit.
The good news is that packing something for shipment with a courier isn't really all that hard. For anything breakable, just be sure that there is no empty air in the package, as this allows the item to shift, and potentially break. Using packing kernels, bubble wrap, or even newspaper can stop this easily. Also, be sure to double box anything that is exceptionally heavy so it won't tear through the box, especially if the box becomes damp. Finally, be sure all packages are labeled correctly, as most delivery problems are due to an unclear shipping label or address on the box.
