Will Christmas Ecards Replace Traditional Ones?

Christmas time, for many people, means a great deal of work in order to get everything ready for the big day

. Buying presents, organising decorations, parties and meals, it all takes time and quite a bit of effort. One area of Christmas organising has been revolutionised since the dawn of the internet, and that is the sending of cards. In this article we'll look at how Christmas cards are made, how they work, and why they seem to have become so successful.

What exactly are Christmas Ecards?

Christmas ecards are in most circumstances short animated films that have a greeting at the end. They are normally made using software such as lash, and because technology has come so far, sound and music is often added too. It is usual for a subscription to be paid by those sending the ecards, giving them access to a wide range of ecards that they can adapt to their own sense of humour etc. They are normally send via email, either as an attachment or using a link which directs to the card.

Versus Traditional Cards

It is true to say that people will always like to receive traditional postal cards. But Christmas ecards can make a big difference to those who do not have a great deal of time to find, buy and write cards to the people they know. It is often the case that people feel obliged to send cards to people they have business relationships with, and sending Christmas ecards instead can reduce the time they spend doing this. That's not to say you'll be impersonal necessarily. Many ecard firms allow you to add a personal message at the end of the ecard so you can make the greeting extra special.

Carbon Footprint

One of the best things about Christmas ecards is the fact that, if they take the place of traditional cards, they reduce your carbon footprint. While the postal services don't like it, it is true to say that traditional cards place huge pressure on forests and energy resources. Ecards can be sent by email, requiring nothing more than tiny amount of electricity, which would be used anyway.

There are many designs of e-card available, with one to suit any mood, occasion or feeling. A basic search on the internet will bring up a large number of companies that specialise in making animated e-cards. They will not replace traditional greetings, but they do offer a greener alternative.
