Will Hobsonville Point Spell the End for the Hobsonville North Kindergarten?

As a parent of a child who attends this kindy

, I understand that the Kindergarten can no longer exist in its current location. This is a fait accompli. What I am frustrated about however is the apparent lack of consideration or effort on the part of the Hobsonville Land Company or the Auckland Kindergarten Association to realistically explore alternatives to closing the kindergarten altogether. For example has anyone thought to ask what the Land Company intend to do with the vacated building?

Are they moving it anywhere? Are they selling it? Can the kindy buy it? Would the Hobsonville land company be prepared to assist in the removal costs to a new location if the kindy were able to find such a place? Are the Hobsonville Land Company really prepared, on one hand, to continue promoting the fact that building a community and associated amenities is vitally important to the success of this project yet, on the other hand, completely ignore the need for a kindergarten, or infact any child care service in the area for at least 2 more years! There will be 82 new houses built within the year at Hobsonville Point and with those houses will come families who will utilise a service such as our kindergarten. What are those children supposed to do in the meantime?

So in the spirit of serving the community and providing great community services throughout the development process, I would put it to the Hobsonville Land Company to once again enter into discussions with the Kindergarten and the Auckland Kindergarten Association to see what can be done to foster this spirit and make the Hobsonville Point development a success not only in the provision of houses but in the provision of community based facilities. Now is not the time to take them away. Now is the time to think outside the box.
