Upon release from his KHL (Kontinental Hockey League) team, SKA St.Petersburg, veteran goaltender Evgeni Nabokov has once again become an unrestricted free agent, free to sign wherever he desires. Nabokov, who was an NHL free agent over the summer of 2010, fled to the KHL early in July due to the lack of interest by NHL teams, where to buy Discount NHL Jerseys, maybe ujersy is a good choice.
Few teams were interested in Nabokov during free agency, with the Philadelphia Flyers being the only major team to contact Nabokov and his agent, Don Meehan. In fact, the Flyers had contacted Evgeni Nabokov's lone team in nine NHL seasons, the San Jose Sharks, and acquired his contract rights during the NHL's 2010 Entry Draft.
Unable to agree on a contract with the Flyers, Nabokov singed with St.Petersburg in hopes of winning a championship in the KHL.
Nabokov participated in 22 games for Team SKA, ending with a week record of 8-8-5 (wins-losses-overtime losses). Nabokov's (Nabby's) contract was recently terminated by SKA due to his struggles, and he is now in search of a job with a professional team; preferably the NHL according to his agent Don Meehan.
Also according to Meehan, three NHL teams have contacted Nabokov regarding a possible contract. Two of the three teams are believed to be the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Washington Capitals; both teams rumored to be in search of a number one goaltender to assist them in their quests for the Stanley Cup.
While the Lightning and Capitals are both legitimate possibilities for Nabby, I wonder which other teams may contact Nabokov regarding a deal. I have come up with three possible teams that may have interest in pursuing the two-time NHL all-star goaltender (Lightning and Capitals not included), with reasons why they may decide to contact the 35-year-old.
Ottawa Senators:
The Senators will be a team battling for the eighth place spot in the Eastern Conference for the whole 2010-11 NHL season. One weak point on the team has been their hot-and-cold goaltending performances by goalies Brian Elliot and Pascal Leclaire, if you want to buy Ottawa SenatorsJerseys, go to ujersy. With some teams in need of a starting goaltender, the Senators could trade away one of Elliot or Leclaire, and go after a strong starting goalie like Nabokov. Though the Sens are in a tough position right now, acquiring a strong goaltender would only increase their chances of winning a playoff berth.
New York Islanders
Reports from many New York Islanders reporters, including Nick McGuire of SportsHaze and Islanders411, the Islanders are currently shopping back-up goalie Dwayne Roloson. If the Islanders can find a team to take Roloson, and feel the need to acquire another goalie, Nabokov may be their guy. They have cap-space, and ...
