Footy fans, get ready - the finals season is upon us

. No matter what your team colours - or which sport you follow - this will be the most exciting time of the year. And while you could get together with your mates at the pub or even catch the action on your new 3D TV - many of the most die-hard fans are going to get themselves out to the game.

But for some, being at the game is hardly enough - you've gotta really get into the spirit. Here are some great sporting traditions to show your dedication to your team:

Dress up and carry signs - wear your team colours with pride and make up a catchy slogan for a sign. And remember - this is the reason that body paint was invented.

Tailgating - borrowed from the Americans, this is the act of getting together in the stadium hours before the game for some good barbeque and beer. Nothing like a bit of pre-gaming to get yourselves ready for the main event.

Club songs - Australian footy teams have some of the most memorable songs that can be easily interpreted into "dance". Lines like "shake down the thunder from the sky" and "Bulldogs bite and bulldogs roar" are begging for some artistic fan interpretation.

Noise, lots and lots of noise - from clappers to horns, maybe a vuvuzela or two, it's the sports fans' job to make as much noise as humanly possible, and more. Be creative with your decibel blaring arsenal.

Sports Finals to get decked out for

AFL - The final eight to finish at the top of the ladder have been decided and the path to the Grand Final has begun. The 2010 AFL Grand Final will be held on 25 September at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. There are six ways to obtain one of these highly prized tickets (selling your first born isn't one of them). NRL - the Finals series kicks off this month, with the NRL Grand Final scheduled for 3 October at Telstra Stadium in Sydney.
