The Virginia Tech Hokies have not started the season exactly as they hoped

, or even expected. Yes, everybody knew that the battle against Boise State would be tough. Though they lost it, there were still high hopes for the team heading into the season as a possible power in the ACC. There was not much to not like about Tech, boistered by a rushing attack featuring Ryan Williams.

What followed sent Virginia Tech's season into a spiral, and it may get worse. Tech struggled moving the ball against FCS opponent James Madison, and lost the game. It was an abysmal performance, and considered one of the biggest upsets in recent memory in college football. Though the Hokies were able to defeat East Carolina last week to get their first win on the season, it took a comeback of epic proportions, and East Carolina handing them the game for it to get done. The Hokies were to begin conference play against the Boston College Eagles this week, as decided favorites.

That may no longer be the case, as the Hokies are going to be without the services of running back Ryan Williams, their top offensive threat. A hamstring injury that Williams sustained in the game against East Carolina is going to be enough to keep him out of the lineup as the Hokies open conference play.

He is one of five players that will miss the game for Virginia Tech. It is going to be a tall order for them to duplicate a 48-14 drubbing of Boston College last year, especially without Williams. The Eagles are going to be fired up for that not to happen again, and it is going to take a solid effort from Tech to overcome the injuries that have presented themselves going into the game.
