Wills and Trusts Attorney Has Breakthrough after Crying

Wills and Trusts Attorney Has Breakthrough after Crying

The other night I cried as I watched the movie Letters to Juliet (yes I can admit it). Or maybe I was cutting up onions. Then a day later, I was ecstatic at how well Eminem portrayed himself in his hit movie 8 Mile. This was only from watching a movie.

Many families go through emotions like this daily, if not weekly. From these emotions we all react in some way. More often than not, while I am speaking with family and fans alike, I am asked when a good time to create an emergency estate plan is. In many of my speaking engagements; many families ask about asset protection, wills, trusts, life insurance, financial powers of attorney, and medical powers of attorney.

As far as being an estate planning attorney, or a Wills and Trusts attorney in Oakland County, is concerned; a number of these estate planning attorneys only provide half of the truth to clients. So, I honestly tell them, as soon as I can. I relate the story of a 42-year old real estate professional, client, husband and father of three. He died of heart attack, no plan in place and left his family in an uphill battle. Here is one statement I often here: Do not worry my niece/nephew/neighbor/clown, we hired back in the day is a lawyer and we can get free advice about creating a will, power of attorney, medical powers of attorney, or trust.

How many of the family functions do you often hear this conversation? Or, hear another story from a client whose evil sister stole more than $287,876 from a joint bank account of a mom, had an online will.

Here are 3 easy indicators when to decide if you should be listening to the conversations of the members of the family for you and your family at your next holiday gathering:

If you fear the state of raising your kids, this is your time to get an emergency child protection plan.

If you fear an evil step-child suing your wife if you pass away, you need get off your 452 and get the plan done.

If you fear your loved ones, children, and beneficiaries from inheriting your mortgage, credit card and other debts when you die.

We asked our Wills and Trusts attorney in Oakland County (Southfield, MI) how this can help busy families. The 3rd indicator is the best one, in my opinion, since many homes are underwater with large mortgages. What will happen if instead of receiving your insurance proceeds, retirement plans or other hard-earned assets; your kids now get a bill from the mortgage company?
