Cheltenham festival has been and gone once again for another year with plenty of surprises across the week long event

. With over two hundred thousand people visiting the festival in person over the week and betting monies totalling over five hundred million pounds this is one of the best festivals on the racing calendar in the world with people coming from all over to experience the famous Cheltenham Festival every year.

Many of the UK horse racing tracks are of a premium standard and home to some of the worlds finest tracks and if you are lover of horse racing you will already know that it is fabulous day out for the family. No matter where you live in the UK you will not be far away from a racecourse.

Although it is a British culture, horse racing, it is also very popular in many other countries such as Europe, America, Australia and Dubai. How far would you go to take part in racing events? Would you travel to another country?

There is some race courses that you would not even know are there. One of the most attractive racetracks in the world and most certainly in Europe is Nicosia Racecourse in Cyprus. You wouldnt automatically think of Cyprus as a country to host race meetings however, it really is a pretty course. It was quoted as being the most picturesque race course in the world. This proclamation may seem a little over exaggerated but you will soon discover that this statement is spot on after spending the day here and experiencing one of the many meetings. With the jockeys racing silks shimmering in the beautiful Cypriot sunshine against the wonderful backdrop of the striking Kyrenia mountains, the lush green forests and the amazing shapely date palms it is all makes it worth the trip here. The only place in Cyprus to take part in legal horse racing and betting is Nicosia Racecourse. This has been so since 1878 when horse racing started on the island. The course had a full re-vamp and renovation in 1997 making the track and buildings more up to date with modern times and the recent installation of the track floodlights means the meetings can carry on until the early evenings.

Meetings are held all year round on this track with the summer and autumn seasons holding meetings on Wednesdays and most Saturdays and the winter and spring season seeing meetings held on most Saturdays and all Wednesdays.

Along with this there is a meeting on most of the major holidays. There are ten races on each race card at each meeting, so there is a lot to keep you entertained.

This is one of many race courses to visit in Europe, granted this maybe the best one, and if you are considering a holiday, you could combined it with one of the many cheap Cyprus holidays that are available.
