Wind Generator For Homes - What Are Our Choices ?
Looking into a wind turbine for homes project can be a terrific way to learn and to get some free energy
. However, with a burst of new information available on renewable resources in general, you can easily be a bit overwhelmed when thinking about doing a project like this.
The first thing to do is understand if you have got enough wind energy around your home to make something like this a reality. It's not that hard to figure out if you take some time. You have got to be willing to collect some data around your house with a small device called an anemometer.
That just means pick some places that you wouldn't mind seeing it installed and you think you neighbors would be okay with. You also need to take the time to make sure there are no permitting restrictions that will keep you from installing the device.
Once you've done that, you're in a position to collect some data with anemometer. An anemometer is just a small wind turbine that you can use to simulate the actual wind turbine in practice. You mount the anemometer at the location where you install one turbine and let it run for a few weeks. They all come with software that you can use to interface with the device with your computer and make sense of the data you collected. If you have at least 9 mph of wind, you're in good shape and will have a good project, without question.
However, it is possible to also a good project if your wind speed is a lot less than that. The cut-in speed and describes the wind velocity at which the turbine will start like electricity. There are new devices coming on the market that have cut-in speeds of less than 1 mph!
Once you've done all you can get into the specifics of how you will complete the project. Earth4Energy is great source of information. They have video presentations on how to build a wind turbine yourself and will show step by step the process of getting this done. That's one option but there are others available out there to teach you how to do this.
You can of course just go through a dealer. This is a lot more expensive but you achieve the same result in the final analysis. The only downside to doing it this way is that you don't get to learn the details of how the turbine works along the way, like you would if you built it making wind turbines yourself.
In conclusion, the first thing you knew need to do with wind turbines for homes is understand what you have to work with. Once you get the overview and find out how much wind energy you are wasting every day by not having a wind turbine, you will be motivated to see the project through to completion.
