A more complicated type of valance is a pleated valance these are a little more complicated thus if you are thinking of making your own but are not a skilled draper you may want to leave it up to a professional. Even for the novice a window valance is pretty easy to create. Your main concern would be how well the window treatment ties in with your decor. It is just a matter of personal choice as to your style of valances and swags.
