You may experience black screen when trying to load Windows 7. There are several reasons why this screen appears on the boot.

If you are the one facing same problem then first thing to do is, try to find out if there is problem with cables you are using for connection. If there is any other way of connecting your screen (monitor) to system then try that. For instance, if you are using HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connector; disconnect it and reconnect using DVI(Digital Visual Interface) or VGA connector.

If changing cables don't fix your issue then move on to the next step.


You should use "enable low resolution video (640x480)" start up option and then update your video adapter driver. Below are the steps how you can do that.

1. Restart your PC.

2. On the restart press and hold F8 key. In fact you should press immediately F8 key before Windows logo appears.

3. You can set "Enable low-resolution video (640x480)" in Advanced Boot Options screen using arrow keys. Now press Enter.

4. Now login your PC with administrative rights.

Are you able to see your desktop now? If yes, it means there is problem with your video adapter. To fix the issue you should update driver for hardware that isn't working fine. You can do that by browsing Microsoft's website.

If above method don't resolve your issue then you move to the next step. In this step you would start your computer in safe mode to disable your video adapter.

1. Reset your PC.

2. Press and hold F8 key before Windows logo appears.

3. Run it in safe mode using Advanced Boot Options and then press Enter.

4. Login to your computer with Administrative rights. To make sure your system is running in safe mode, check on the corner of the monitor, you'll see the words safe mode.

5. Go to Device manager

a. Click on Start

b. Go to Control Panel

c. Click on System and Security and under system click on Device manger.

6. Expand Display adapters' category in the list of hardware categories. Make a note of your display adapter here.

7. Right click to disable display adapter. Click on Yes when it prompts for confirmation.

8. Close all windows and restart your system.
