Windows 8 And Windowstore Low Down

With the release Windows 8 for the general public on October 26th

. We wanted to give you the low down on what new features can we expect from on of Microsoft"s most anticipated operating systems.

New Features

Desktop and shell

One of the most obvious new features to Windows 8 is the Desktop. The Desktop has been replaced with a Tile View for the Start Screen very similar to the Windows Mobile. Based on Windows Metro design language, these tiles are dynamic and can overlay information to your desktop through smart apps and "live tiles".

Apps

Apps are the big thing in Windows 8. Jensen Harris from Microsoft describes these new apps as a "fast and fluid" experience. Apps can be used on a number of devices and comes with support for touchscreen devices. Apps can have a number of appearances, either displayed in full screen mode, taking up the whole display, or users can dock apps to the side of the screen for a overview display. Live tiles allows apps to relay important information back to the user"s desktop.

Windows Runtime brings a family of API"s to developers allowing support for a wide range of programming languages. WindowsRuntime

Windows Store

Windows 8 is released along with WindowsStore, an online market place for distribution of software, games and apps" WindowsStore is the Microsoft equivalent of Apple"s AppStore. Apps can be free or paid for, developers can even offer trail periods all through the WindowsStore.

Integration with online services

Windows 8 fits perfectly into online services, with the new style Apps integration with online services is seamless.

Other features

WindowsToGo is a live boot-able USB pen drive, allowing you to run Windows 8 wherever you need to with the need to install.

Internet Explorer 10 is shipped standard on all devices, now with touch optimised features.

USB3.0 support on desktop versions as standard.

What this all means

Windows 8 delivers some big new features very well, the cross platform style of app along with the Windows Store distribution method is very exciting. A whole new market place for Games, Applications and Software for business and personal users.
