Windows Phone 7 Apps - Iphone Killer? by:Huey Davis

It's not that long since Microsoft revamped Windows with their Windows 7 and made

casual users and reviewers rejoice over the stunning looks and functionality. Of course, not many people understood all the changes done - and they were many - but the operating system did mark a highpoint for Microsoft. With the launch of Windows Phone 7 at the Barcelona Mobile World Congress, the world's largest software developer has finally gotten back in the game of mobile operating systems. The Windows Phone 7 series is a totally different mobile os, written from scratch that should herald a revolutionary change in mobile operating systems.

What a lot of people want to know is how the Windows Phone 7 Apps system will work out? To be honest, these apps have the potential to be real iPhone killers. They just look so darn good. Microsoft has definitely delivered.

There are many reasons to be excited for the future of Windows Phone 7 apps. One nifty feature is that the apps are shown as 'live' tiles, meaning that they will continue to show content while in their minimized form and they look great. The main interface that makes up the apps is centered around hubs, for example 'office', 'pictures','games' and so on. You could call this the main hubs if you will. There's also the 'People' hub which is great for checking up on what your friends are doing. You can actually see all of your social networking news on just one screen, probably the most innovative social media creation for a mobile phone. The apps are unrestricted by screen size, which means you can zoom in and out and pan across them, allowing for a much more enjoyable and flexible use.

Of course, there are also the games and graphics and those may be one of the big selling points of Windows Phone 7. Windows Phone 7 uses Silverlight, the Microsoft variant of Adobe Flash and that gives Microsoft a leg up on competitors which do not support Flash, namely the Iphone. Graphically, this looks like a no contest. Silverlight has gotten a reputation for creating great looking graphics and it will be very exciting to see what third party developers can come up with. X-Box Live is also integrated into the OS, which promises some interesting possibilities.
