Windows Phone: Using Strategies I
Windows Phone 7 offers us unprecedented experience: online synchronous service
. Yet, even good service has to pay a high price-network flow. So, how do we save network flow without affecting good operating experience? The followings are some practical strategies in using Windows Phone.
1 Wi-Fi network
Steps: SettingsWi-FiWi-Fi Networking (On/Off
Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) is the most widely used wireless network transmission technology. That means it transmits wire network signals to wireless ones. When Wi-Fi wireless signals are available, you can connect to the network without connecting other signals, which saves flow fees for you.
2. If you are accustomed to using operator data, I strongly suggest you shutting it off and never turning it on until you have to use it.
Steps: Settings Network Data Connection (On/Off)
After closing Data Connection, the entire data network will be turned off completely. For example, your cell phone will not be able to receive MMS, neither will it enable to send MMS. Besides, notices about the information of Wi-Fi and apps will not be available, either.
Data Roaming Options (Roam/Dont Roam)
For those who havent opened global roaming, it doesnt matter whether you select data roam or not. However, if you have opened international roaming service and go abroad from time to time, you have to think twice whether theres needed to turn on this function.
3. Airplane Mode
Steps: SettingsAirplane Mode (Status On/Off)
This function can close cell cellular at a time and no operator network flow will be generated. Yet, after closing this function, you can still open Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. When theres a calling coming, the caller will receive a message indicating your phone being power off.
4. Mail synchronizationMake full use of Push Mail
Steps: Settings Email & AccountPress your email box.
If you don't often send emails and seldom depend on it, please select Down New Context Manually Model. If you need it, please follow the steps below:
-For Windows Live mailbox:
Steps: Download New Context As Items Arrive.
Well, does this step mean? In fact, it refers to Push Mail. According to my own experience that Push Mail can better save flow.
-For Exchange ActiveSync mailbox:
Steps: Download New Context sAs Items Arrive.
-For other mail box:
As other types of mail box dont support Push Mail, you have no choice but set the options of Dowloand New Context Regular Inspection. You can save lots of flow if you fix a certain time to check emails in accordance with your email intensity.
5. Location services
Steps: Settings LocationLocation ServicesOn/Off
After the close of location services, the apps of previously opened location services will fail to access to your present location.
6. Find my phone
Steps:
SettingsFind My Phone
Save my location periodically for better mapping
Get results Faster (may use more battery)
7. Update cell phones
In the past years, due to the openness of Windows, everyone were afraid that their PCs would get poisoned or be invaded by Trojans, for which anything stored inside the PC would be seen by others, or their passwords or key would be let out.
As smartphones are more clinging to the body, we store many personal data or even locations into them. As our smartphones are always in a state of networking most of the time, they will cause more severe loss than PCs if invaded by Trojans.
Compared to Android, WP7 is safer because of its closed operating system. If strictly follow the suggestions below, your smartphones will be too much safer.
Windows Phone Safety Regulations
Only download apps and games from Marketplace.
In fact, there are many methods to unlock WP7 and to download pirated softwares. Yet, the problem is once you unlock WP7, the API at the bottom of your smartphones will be exposed, thus leading to the possibilities for hackers to get or change some important information through these API. Some technicians familiar with WP7 can easily interpret a set of contrary APP. Plus with Trojan or monitoring apps, they upload them into piracy markets, where you dont know whether the apps downloaded are problematic or not.

4. Set SIM passwords. Take PIN as SIM of your cell phone. By both setting unlock passwords and SIM codes, your cell phone will be safer.
5. If your phones lose, youd make full use of Find My Phone. Please refer to How to Find My Phone?
6. Have your browser set as Not Store Cookie Automatically. Cookies may record your passwords. If your phones are stolen, all these data maybe leaked.

7. When connecting Wi-Fi in public places, dont input any passwords because hackers are easily to steal them through public Wi-Fi. Therefore, be more careful when free Wi-Fi is available.
Apart from what have been mentioned above, WP7 itself is rather safer. For developers and hardware manufacturers, the closed system somewhat becomes a hindrance, yet it can effectively protect users personal data.
